GAY BEING IN BOGOTA

The capital of one of South America’s most progressive nations in terms of gay rights. Add to that an array of impressive cultural and historic attractions, lively gay nightlife and fine restaurants—which includes what must be one of the hemisphere’s largest gay dance clubs—and you’ve got plenty of reasons to visit the country.

Colombia has made great progress not just in terms of gay rights, the airport is being upgraded (several times), and there is an increasing presence of international hotels as brands like Hilton, JW Marriott, and Radisson. As a local I can tell you that Bogota has become a much safer place, not only for tourists but also for locals The posibilites to celebrate in Bogota are pretty big. Theratron is one/if not the largest club in town it’s an amazing Venue where several music styles join each other and also the place where you’ll find a variety hot blooded Latinos you can’t refuse…

As a gay man you won’t feel surprised by how opened the locals can be, though you shouldn’t expect many guys holding hands or showing public affection. However, as a local I used to even see guys kissing on public places and call boys just walking around the city… What I really want to say is that Bogota is such a good place to be gay, people are opened and mostly don’t care about your sexual preferences, young people tend to be totally cool about whatever you do as long as they don’t feel molested or personally bothered about it.

Bogota is delightful, as are its people. It is also safe — as safe as any major city anywhere. Normal precautions you would take in any city will serve you sufficiently. Further, is quite accepting and gay-friendly, has the thriving gay scene that you’d expect of a city with 7.3 million inhabitants…

twinky boy

Summer is almost over in Berlin, hopefully the very low temperatures won’t hit us very soon! It also seems that I have to start changing the things I am wearing in order not to catch a cold. In the mean time I will just pretend we still have temperatures between and 20 and 30 degrees, plus the feeling of being on the beach with all my friends, that will keep me warm for a couple of days.

It’s 5:30 pm and I have to go out in half an hour, gotta take shower and get ready… I ask myself what should I wear, see all my shorts and realize they are ‘too’ short, then I remember all the things that are related to short-shorts and how easily your image can be missled while wearing something or having a certain type of face. Some people have called me a twink and said I wear outfits for twinky guys, and also said that look I pretty much like one. The common idea of a ‘twink’ is pretty much an attractive, boyish, young and slender hairless gay man.

There is nothing wrong about being a ‘twinky boy’ or a ‘bear’ or any other type of person, but we should think that all this labels that have been created for us, made us look like being in a supermarket where you can choose by colour, size and type of guy. About a month ago I decided to shorten my hair as much as possible, thought the result would be people not seeing me anymore as the ‘ very-cute-twink ‘ they saw before… And it did work, now that I have my short hair I feel very comfortable about the heat and the image I project and feel satisfied about it, I can still wear short-shorts without falling into the same label and things seems to have changed a bit.

Sadly, twink-alikes are given the ultimatum between becoming one of the group or simply pray for someone who wants you and doesn’t feel like rejecting every boy whose body doesn’t fit the regular standards set for very young guys…

Do men wear makeup?

The question itself would have been ridiculous around 10 years ago, now many guys wear make up, I am not talking only about the cliché of homosexuals wearing make up, No! I am talking about regular guys, people who simply want to hide a pimple or make their eye bags look smaller. From the guy who is the Metrosexual until the very straight guy who just want to look his best on a date with his future girlfriend, they all want to look more appropiate and fit within the new ‘standards’ of beauty.

I remember my friends in Catholic school making fun of me just for saying to one of them that I use foundation to cover some pimples I had ( thank God they disappeared ), then realising some years after that they had pretty much done the same thing I did… Nowadays, I don’t wear any makeup, just because my skin turned out to be good and I follow a healthy diet, but if I had to, I would wear some foundation to hide pimples.

One thing I could also say about this ‘guy makeup thing’ is, no matter the gender, you can do pretty much whatever you want to your body, it’s your choice to look however you want to look, to follow this trend or the other to wear black, yellow or pink. Don’t let society to decide everything you have to do, and please do not let Fashion to tell you how you have to look like.

It is proven that men value appearance in their partner much more than vice versa, this does not mean he can forget about his appearance, still the judgement to these type of men is present. My point is (again) that we can all put as much makeup as we want, judgement is something overrated and there’s enough ‘normal’ people out there to even care about it.

Too many potential mates makes it harder to settle on just one. Only that the single person’s wasteland is that much bigger. The volume of young singles in the city “gives you the sense that you could meet someone at any time. Most of the time, though, you don’t.” Another friend who uses an online dating site in the city says that the amount of options means “everyone is looking out for someone better.”

That is precisely the reason why we all seem to be single, we don’t take the time to get to know someone and once we see a small defect or imperfection we just want to jump out of it as soon as possible. A fact that cannot be avoided is: We always want the next best option, meaning mostly that even when we think we’ve found someone special and maybe a partner to share more than just a couple nights, we would be looking for his replacement since we don’t want to get hurt or are already getting bored of him…

As we know, there is not right or wrong way to do things when it comes to dating, however we could be more sincere with people that are surrounding us, they might have also feelings! Here comes the principle of not hurting people if you don’t want get hurt and that is something that seems to be missing here in Berlin, or at least that’s my personal experience. To me it seems to be extremately hard to find someone who you can trust, and/or someone who wants to take the time to get to know you better.

Although it sounds pesimist, it is the truth of such big cities to have all this huge rates of single people… Not really looking to keep all in this tone, that’s why I wanted to share some good news that came up of Grindr. A good friend of mine met his bf on Grindr, they have been together already for 2 years and will get married in almost 1 months! Can that be any better? - Yes, that’s the very same feeling I get when I start thinking this city might not be the worse place to set up with someone.

gay films you have to see

There are certain times of day when we just wish to sit on the couch and do nothing, some of us do not have a companion to join is in this very hard labour of relaxing, however there’s still a lot you can do by yourself or with your boyfriend, such as watching a film and cuddle while watching a film. That’s why I have decided to create list with some of the films I consider every gay person should know about.

1. Prayers for Bobby

” It is based on the book, Prayers for Bobby: A Mother’s Coming to Terms with the Suicide of Her Gay Son, by Leroy F. Aarons, which is itself based on the true story of the life and legacy of Bobby Griffith, a young gay man who killed himself in 1983 due to his mother’s and community’s homophobia” Wikipedia

If you are a very sensitive person, there might a risk that you cry during the entire film.

2. A single man

” A Single Man is the story of George Falconer (Colin Firth), a middle-aged English college professor living in Los Angeles. George dreams that he encounters the body of his longtime partner, Jim (Matthew Goode), at the scene of the car accident that took Jim’s life eight months earlier. After awakening, George delivers a voiceover discussing the pain and depression he has endured since Jim’s death and his intention to commit suicide that evening ” Wikipedia

The way this film goes by is simply amazing, how a man cannot move on because of thinking about his old partner. The casual and deep connection between a student and a College teacher makes this film even more interesting, and please don’t forget the role of Jon Kortajarena as a Spanish male prostitute.

3. Freier Fall

The plot follows Marc, an expectant father and police officer who begins to develop feelings for a fellow policeman. The film was released on 23 May 2013. The casting of this film is composed by talented actors such as Hanno Koffler, Max Riemelt and Katharina Schüttler. A heart-touching drama is something that will make your heart beat faster than ever, scenes where you can believe people can sacrifice anything for true love.

4. My life in Pink

”Ludovic is a young boy who can’t wait to grow up to be a woman. When his family discovers the little girl blossoming in him they are forced to contend with their own discomfort and the lack of understanding from their new neighbors. Their anger and impatience cave and Ludovic is sent to see a psychiatrist in the hopes of fixing whatever is wrong with him. A movie that addresses trans-gender and gender issues in general through the eyes of a child.” Imdb

There is only a few amount of films that have made me cry and at some point influenced my life. Most of these films contain images and situations that some of us would normally feel identified with.

5. Shopaholic

Women are vulnerable to shopping, gay men aren’t far away from suffering this syndrome. This film tells the story of a NY based Journalist trying to make her way to the most famous fashion Magazine in town, unfortunately this women has to deal a lot with debt collectors who are trying to turn her life into a living hell. A story worth to be watched

Gay sauna for the first time

Saunas are well known are all over the world, the history goes back thousands of years… Finns always had some form of sweat bath, as did most peoples around the world. It was the simplest and most efficient way to satisfy people’s innate need to keep clean. Those are basically the first time it was believed saunas came from, things have changed a lot and now you can find ‘thematic’ saunas, such as family saunas, straight saunas, and of course gay Saunas.

As I left home to come to Europe at the age of 20, my desire to explore new things became much stronger than I thought. After 3 motnhs of living in Germany I decided it was time to make a 3 week trip to Amsterdam, the reasons where pretty obvious, summer, canals all over the city, beautiful language, Dutch guys and of course local food. Once the first 2 weeks were gone I had already seen pretty much a lot from the city, had walked miles around and met wonderful people, however I felt like missing something… Yes, I was missing the gay experience. When I travel I don’t feel like mandatory going to the number gay places in town, I believe we can all mix and join around, no matter what your sexuality is.

The clock was pointing 10pm, I had already had a couple beers and it was supposed to be a lonely night for me. Something told me that I should that extra mile and push myself to try new things to live new experiences and learn from them, I got to to a pretty famous gay Sauna in Amsterdam called Thermos, got there feeling like it was a mistake to do it, and for a second thought about just going back to the Hotel.

After 10 minutes of thinking about which would be the right desition, I walked to the Sauna and got in. It wasn’t as I thought, it was clean, that night we had a very young public and if you don’t feel like doing anything with anyone you just gently push their hands away and they will politely retire and keep looking for someone else. There was also a steam room where you can only see shadows and people walking around, very interesting I have to say… No negative comments about my first time in a Sauna, it was just as regular as going to the gym.

If you’ve never been to a gay Sauna, just give it a try!

things not to wear in Summer

Summer is here! We can’t stop thinking about things to do and how to enjoy ourselves while having temperatures going from 25 until 34 degrees, this seems the perfect scenario to just take your clothes off and walk naked down the street, however this is forbidden in several countries… That’s why we have decided to create a guide on how to dress in Summer and it includes mostly the things you shouldn’t wear and the looks you’re definitely not aimimg for.

things you don't want to wear in Summer

1. Do we really need deep v-neck tshirts? - If you want to show your chest you can either wear nothing or just a tanktop, I don’t see the point on wearing these tshirts, there’s nothing sexy about them, it looks to me like someone took some regular tshirt and really deeped down the neck… Instead, you can wear something like this.

2. Unbuttoned Shirts

This is one of the things you can sometimes make an exception in Summer, I have only seen 2 guys that were able to look good while wearing shirts this way. I feel that unbuttoned shirts give you some sort of sugar-daddy look, I just don’t like it and have seen it a lot during the last days…

unbottoned shirts are a no go

3. Men thongs

One thing is wearing short-shorts, short swimming garment and a VERY different one is wearing a men thong, you can always do it if you feel comfortable but please, do know that you have to have a really good body in order to make a men thong to look amazing.

mens-thongs

4.Mandals

Hello European fellows!

Here you can wear who wear sandals with chinos and jackets and look pretty nice and all fancy…

However wearing sandals with socks is a no go, they might be good sandals but please! please! Do not wear them with socks.

This is only a guide to show you some of the things you can avoid in Summer, I also know that you knew most of them, but it’s always to have a reminder on those little details we can easily forget because of the hot temperatures.

Visiting Berlin in Summer

Berlin is an adventure playground. The German city offers plenty of open spaces where its residents and visitors let off and have fun. Berlin is made for those who call themselves adventurous and are ready to see new things and live everyday as if it was the last one.

Some of the perks of living/visiting Berlin during the Summer are have the the beach bars. Palm trees, swimming pools and canopied beach chairs stand in the middle of the city. The visitors and locals bare feet into the warm sand and let themselves be served with cool drinks ( not to mention the amount of shirtless Germans walking all around the place)… The Berliner summer is a mix of city and holiday is just amazing, so amazing that even if you have a job, you feel like you’re on vacation.

Free open airs? Yes, if you visit Berlin during the Summer you will have several chances to see a variety of artists playing for free, you can enjoy a summer concert on the open air stage. All sorts of music are on offer, from classical, jazz and folk to pop, hip hop and disco, not to forget the movie screenings that take place during Summer. There are also some options for visitors or locals, such as the soho house. I have had the chance to be there a couple of times and it becomes harder to take your eyes of those guys in the swimming pool, the drinks are very tasty and the food can be ranked with an 8 out of 10.

Summer means to me like the perfect time to relax and simply enjoy life, that’s why we have a gay beach in Berlin, made for those who don’t feel really comfortable wearing their very tiny and tight speedo. Located right next to the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) can be reached in less that 30 minutes from most of the tourists and locals living within the areas A and B of the city.

There are thousands of Cafés in Berlin, whether you just want to sit and relax or take a short break between dates, and by dates I also mean tinder dates and so on… Many coffee houses offer WLAN Internet access and power sockets for laptops, and when we have sunlight you can just sit outside and enjoy yourself to the rythm of hipster music. The best spots to have a nice coffee are located in Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg, here’s a compilation with some my favourite ones…

Oberholz

Located in the heart of Berlin and really close to some of the best boutiques of this town, this Café offers delicious sandwiches, coffee and the most important thing… A hipster atmosphere where you can use WLAN.

Address : Rosenthaler Straße 72a, 10119 Berlin

Mr. Minsch

If you are a fan of fresh and delicious cakes you will probably spend your budget in this Café, their cakes are just amazing and the coffee tastes good enough to sit there for at least two hours ans just talk and enjoy.

Address : Yorckstr. 15, 10965 Berlin

Napoljonska

Like taken out of a fairtytale, this place offers some of the best Croissants I have ever eaten in my life, not to mention the very-good-looking Chef and his wonderful smile, plus high speed WLAN at one th best spots in Berlin.

Address : Kastanienallee 43, 10119 Berlin

Once upon a time the fashion blogging world used to belong to girls, we didn’t have much of a chance to make in this world controlled by female bloggers wearing their Jeffrey Campbells and walking around on high heels that only 1% of the population is able to walk on. That’s the reason why I have decided to show off some of the top male bloggers that made it. Some of these male fashion bloggers are faces who are visible on the biggest runways around the world. These guys are located all around the world, they know no obstacles and are always travelling around the globe proving that guys can make it in the fashion blogging business. Whether gay or not (mostly gay bloggers) it’s important to see the potential these people have and how far they’ve taken it, even to the point of starting their own businesses and collaborating with labels that otherwise might seem inaccessible.

Adam Gallagher

Based in New York, Adam Gallagher is the male fashion blogger who seems to be in every single Male Fashion Show that you can imagine. In my opinion his beautiful face and casual but at the same time dappered style have captivated most of his readers, there’s also something about him that makes him someone approachable to the readers. He’s definitely not one of these ”I am amazing LOVE ME” bloggers we are all used to see. He seems to be a nice guy and I think that and his talent to pose for the camera have given Adam the top spot.

Untitled-1

Pelayo Diaz

Hot-blooded Spanish fashion male blogger Pelayo Diaz is the next one to be featured in my list. I don’t have to say a lot about him since his style talks a lot for himself, the way he combines and sets outfits is something I admire. His look achieves the appeareance of “not-trying-hard.”

mykita_radhourani copy

Bryan Boy

Based in NY excentric -gay- male- blogger Bryan boy seems to be everywhere you check on the Internet, from street style blogs to VOGUE, STYLE.COM and some others. Although his blog is not exactly my cup of tea I do respect and find amazing the fact that he’s fear enough to wear almost everything out there, and of course the fact that he moved his derrière from the Philippines to make himself a career in Fashion…

nick-wooster-_ritratto-20130621593709 copy

Nick Wooster

Described by many as a ONE-MAN brand, fashionisto and of course an object of veneration by Intagramers and street style photographers, this guy has in my opinion one of the best trimmed beards in the world history, not only a sexy face who walks around waiting to be caught by a photographer, but a business person who has potential and uses it the right way!

Starecasers by David Gualandris and Thibaud Guyonnet

Starecasers is a men’s fashion blog started in 2011 and run by two Berlin-based young men. The blog is mostly dedicated to male outfits, travelling (a lot) and events. These two gentlemen do have a really good sense of style.

Pink Monday Dusseldorf

Welcome to a new post about LGBT news and events, this time we will send our travel report from Düsseldorf, a place where some of the best fashion boutiques of Germany are located. This event has been covered by the team of MGTG.

After being part of the CSD celebration in Berlin, we decided it was a good idea to cover events in different cities of the country, that’s why we packed our bags and decided to make a trip to Düsseldorf, where the Pink Monday has been celebrated for almost 20 years. If you don’t know what the Pink Monday is about, I will give you some hints…

  • 50,000 gays and lesbians
  • Live bands and rustic food
  • Germany’s biggest outdoor LGBT event
  • 3,000 uniformed marksmen on horseback and foot

The event itself congregates around 4 million people and brings visitors from all over the world, for me it is the perfect chance to celebrate with friends and family, not to mention the events with live music, costumed servers, and all imaginable German fest food delicacies from savory to sweet: sausage, roast, pig knuckles to potatoes and sauerkraut to apple cake and ginger bread and much more (I forgot to mention beer but we all know it’s going to be enough for all of us).

During this celebration you will also have the chance to interact with lots of people, from the family with 3 children until the Drag Queen with the 10 inches platforms, they all gather to celebrate and have an amazing time… Anyways, this celebration is all about giving you the chance to be yourself, meet new people, make new connections and just have a good time.

The Fair will take place for the 113th time this year in its current location: the vast Rhine meadows on the Rhine River right across the city’s center and easily reachable by foot, ferries, and public transportation. Since most of the german population speaks English, there is pretty much nothing you have to worry about. Accommodation shouldn’t be a problem if you booked things on time, however if you are still wondering where you’re going to spend your time during the visit, there’s a list of things you should check out before you decide to come.

  • Prices start at €52 per night per person based on double-occupancy for a 2-3-star hotel in the city center and at €72 per person for a 4-star hotel. The package includes breakfast, one DüsseldorfCard (free public transportation within city limits plus 30 free or reduced admissions to city attractions), and a city information package.
  • AirBnb is almost always an option for last-minute travel plans as well.
  • If you’re a backpacker, there will always be hostels around €20 -€30 per night in Düsseldorf city center.

When Pink Monday rolls around on the Rhine meadows on July 14th, Germany will show to the world once again how progressive it is when it comes to rights for LGBTQ folk. Acceptance is the way forward - everyone wants to party, so why not party together? Pink Monday and the fun fair that it’s attached to are bound to be an essential stop off on any summer trip to the West of Germany. Stuff your face on sauerkraut, currywurst and ginger cake, wash it down with some local brews, and try to control your stomach as you get spun upside-down and round and round on the rides that are brought in especially for the fun fair. And it’s all in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia — Germany’s most populous and the German gay capital of Cologne is a mere half hour away by train.
